Why People Visit:
Pittsburgh, or sometimes referred to as the "Steel City" is an underrated vacation spot despite the city's exciting attractions. Some of the legendary attractions to the city would include the pierogies, the merging of the Ohio River, Allegheny River and the Monongahela River and the various sports teams throughout the town. The city of many bridges offers all of these attractions plus many more to make your visit very enjoyable for the whole family.
Most major cities have their own type of food: Chicago has deep-dish pizza, Philadelphia has Philly cheesesteaks, and St. Louis has ribs. Pittsburgh also has its own famous dish. Pierogies, a sweet filled dumpling, can be found on every street corner throughout the city.
One of the most beautiful attractions of Pittsburgh is the merging of the 3 rivers around the city. The best location to get a picture of the rivers merging with the Pittsburgh skyline in the background would be to head up Mount Washington via the Duquesne Incline. Located within minutes from downtown Pittsburgh, Mount Washington is the perfect location to have a 360 view of the city for beautiful pictures.
Perhaps the largest attraction to Pittsburgh would be it's various sports teams. From football to baseball to hockey, there is no stopping this city from enjoying sports entertainment. All these teams generate a sense of pride within the city and the accomplishments these teams have received is quite eye-opening: five Stanley Cups, 5 World Series, and 6 Superbowl victories. There is definitely no shortage of athleticism within the city.
So be sure to add the Steel City to your bucket list and once you visit be sure to find a vacation rental for the best at-home feeling.
Getting There and Getting Around:
The airport is located about 20 minutes outside of downtown. The best way to get to town would be to either take a shuttle, shareride, taxi, or a rental car. Once in town, the best way to get around would be to either take a shareide/taxi or by rental car. There is also a public bus system that can also take you across town quickly.
What to Wear (The Weather):
The weather in Pittsburgh is relatively mild compared to most other cities as far north. The summer highs reach up to about 85°F and lows of 66°F, in the winter times the temperature drops to 40° for a high and 25°F low. So packing heavy clothes is unnecessary, but packing light long-sleeves would be recommended. Precipitation is no stranger to Pittsburgh either, with an average of 4 inches of rain in the summer and 3 inches in the winter. So be sure to pack a raincoat in case it starts suddenly raining on you.
Accommodations:
The most popular rental choice in the Pittsburgh area are apartments but there are also house rentals as well. The average price of an apartment rental is $180 per night and the average size of apartments is 850 ft². These size accommodations can hold up to approximately 5 people. Those seeking a house rental can also find those at on average $350 per night and an average size of 1,200 ft².
